The Copper Mountain mine, the Companys flagship asset, is located in southern British Columbia, and produces approximately 90 million pounds of copper equivalent per year. With a modest mill expansion and integration of New Ingerbelle, the Copper Mountain is expected to have a 31 year mine life and produce an average of 116 million pounds of copper equivalent per year.
Khoemacau Copper Mining, a subsidiary of Cupric Canyon, is developing the project, which was acquired along with the nearby Boseto licenses and complex in 2015. Estimated to cost 397m to construct, the project is expected to produce 62,000 tonnes (t) of copper and million ounces (Moz) of silver in the initial stages.
The expansion project represented an incremental increase in capacity of 225 million lb/y of copper over the course of the mines 30year life. The centerpiece of the expansion is the refurbished Metcalf mill, which has been shuttered since the late 1990s.
The mill struggled with ore variability and hardness, producing a copper concentrate with gold and silver credits that decreased throughput, and ultimately reduced metal and concentrate production. One of the main challenges of this brownfield operation was installing the circuits within existing process infrastructures without disturbing ongoing operations.
