26/5/2005#0183;#32;Barium titanate has been prepared by solidstate reaction of nanocrystalline TiO 2 (70 nm) with BaCO 3 of different particle size (650, 140, and 50 nm). The results give evidence of a strong effect of the size of BaCO 3 in the solidstate synthesis of barium titanate. The use of nanocrystalline BaCO 3 already leads to formation of the singlephase BaTiO 3 after calcination for 8 h at 800#176;C.
The solid state route needs high calcinations temperature to get perovskite phase and often results in the formation of multiphase and inhomogeneous powders .High energy ball milling is also reported to produce 10nm particle size but the approach suffers from small batch size, high processing time and energy consumption.
In this paper the characteristics of BaTiO3 ceramics synthesized by solid state method is presented. In order to receive the monophase ceramics the double activation and calcination were applied.

The milling in a planetary mill of Ba(OH)+TiO2 resulted in a BaTiO3 powder which had poor crystallinity so an annealing treatment was necessary [7].
